Hanseatic City of Stralsund
The Western-Pomeranian Backwater National Park is a wetland with international relevancy in conservation of waterfowls. This area adjoins on the Strelasund – the natural barrier between the island and the mainland – a backwater and estuary of the Baltic Sea. Here the 58.700 inhabitants of Stralsund are living. Gaudy gabled houses, magnificent churches, the impressive city hall, medieval cloisters and brick-wall buildings form the character of the UNESCO world heritage place.
