The run

The sport event agency “Nordic Events” is going to establish a natural and experiential marathon for everybody in the region. The course of the 42.195 km distance starts in the old town of Stralsund, leads over the new Rugia Bridge on its way to take the imposing German Avenue Road on the island, turn to go round the lap close to the water of the Strelasund and to arrive in the end of the run in the UNESCO world heritage city of Stralsund again. Besides the marathon, there is also a 10 km experiential run/walking and a mini-marathon for kids offered. Eligible for the marathon distance is everybody who is 18 years old.

The Rügenbrücken-Marathon is supposed to satisfy the prospect of a city and a nature experience marathon. The flair of the Hanseatic City will be stirring as well as the dense alley of trees and the untouched nature of Rugia’s south part. The course is characterized by its diversified views and landscapes, on which country ways take turns with asphalted streets in pleasing intervals.

The course

You are going to start in the city centre of Stralsund, run across the new bridge to the island of Rugia. Here you have to conquer a rising of 4 %. However, the view from 46 m height on the water of the Sund and the city of Stralsund will reward you for all the strain. Close to Altefähr you pass Grahler Hof and continue your way alongside the German Alley Street until Gustow. Now you will run directly on the alley street on your way to Poseritz. There you take the former narrow-gauge railway track to Glutzow Hof, continuing to Venzvitz and Sissow, heading to the peninsula Prosnitz. On sandy tracks you will reach the head of it and enjoy the fascinating views on the water all over again on the way back to Gustow. From there you will take the same route back as you came from, except from a short side trip to the Grahler Fähre, where you can see the Rügenbrücke. The way back to Stralsund will lead you over the old Rügendamm to see the new bridge from another angle. This fascinating outlook should motivate you for the last kilometers, which are comfortably directed through the old city of Stralsund.
